What does the name mean??

No, we don't sell puzzles. Well not in the sense you may be thinking anyway.

The name of the store is in honor of our son, who has autism. Autism is represented by a puzzle piece defining the complexity of this brain disorder.

“Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.”

(Autism Society NC)

You’ll find that we are dedicated to educating our community about autism; the myths, the facts and the fun! Because so much of what we do is wrapped in our son’s needs, we can talk autism all day and look forward to every opportunity to do so.

Who is The Puzzle Piece

We are not a Non-Profit Thrift Store.

We are a hard working local small business consignment retail store.

We specialize in quality gently used products including clothing, home & garden products, electronics, vintage items as well as seasonal items.

My name is Chris and my husband's name is Brian. We have 3 very cool kids. We are both Army Veterans with a combined 30 years of service to our country and community. We both come from a very long line of military service dating back to the Spanish American War. And now our oldest daughter is continuing to carry the torch into her National Guard Service.

While the Army brought us to Moore County 14 years ago, it's the community that keeps us here to raise our family and set roots for our future.

The Puzzle Piece started because of a dream.

Yes a literal middle of the night dream planted the seed for the shop idea in my head. As soon as Brian returned from his last deployment in April 2011, we ran with it and opened our doors that December.

The driving force behind the store was so this will offer our disabled son the opportunity to experience his own independence. Diagnosed with autism at the age of 4, we hope that taking on duties in the store will allow him to interact with you the community and gain important skills and knowledge that will increase his independence while building his self-confidence. If you happen to be here when he is, be prepared to talk about your car.
